Hydration and Electrolytes for Beauty

I for one need to work on getting my 8 glasses of water per day. Our bodies needs to have enough hydration to look healthy and beautiful by plumping out and filling out indentations and lines in skin. Fluids in the skin also help to create a dewey appearance and feel to the skin. And having the correct balance of water and electrolytes enhances healthy cell production and cell turnover rate. This hydration also helps rid the body of toxins and keeps your lymph system functioning. The majority of professionals state that eight glasses of water a day is optimal for body hydration of an average sized adult female. You may need to consume more if you are exercising or sweating profusely, have a very high body weight or are in extreme heat or dry conditions.

Dehydration can make you look haggard by bringing out the appearance of your lines and wrinkles. The appearance of your skin can also look dull and dry if you are not filling up on water. We want to help our skin become dewey from the inside out, naturally. To help retain our dewey appearance a layer of moisturizer for medium to dry skin will prevent evaporation of moisture from our skin. For frugal beauty you can also apply a small amount of olive or vegetable oil to the skin. If you have very oily skin or acne you can skip this step and concentrate on bringing the oil from your pores to the outer skin.

Sometimes thirst is mistaken by the brain as hunger. If you crave sweet beverages you may just need a large glass of water.

While we do want moisture and hydration of the skin, we do not want the edema or swelling that is associated with inflammation and the immune response. Inflammation and the immune response slow healthy production of cells and cell turnover rate. Swelling of the face and body can happen when your lymph system is not functioning properly or your electrolytes are out of balance. Your lymph system may need a little help with dry brushing. Consuming a moderate level of the primary electrolytes with your food (sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and chloride) will help your body function properly. Some people are sensitive to excess sodium consumption so they may need to cut back to avoid adema and high blood pressure.
